I honestly cannot recall when I have enjoyed a book as much as this one. In the genre of Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle this one had it all . Jack is repairing a fence in the yard of a 4 family house. The inhabitants are : an older woman and her cat; a young pregnant couple; a man and his daughter and a young woman who has a daycare. Their lives intertwine in an astonishing manner and they become partners in crime. I have never read this author but after this fabulous foray I am hungry for more. I chose a 4 rating because of the ending, or rather lack of one.
The book started off good right from first page and continued throughout.
The characters were very believable and interesting.
I would recommend this book to others.
A group of tenants find themselves involved in the murder of a troublesome neighbor. Can they trust each other to keep a deadly secret?
Definitely interesting. A mishmash of characters blended together to solve problems.
This is the first time I have read or even heard about this writer and I absolutely love his book. Even though it took a while for any murder to be committed it was totally worth the wait. I am not going to tell any of the story because it is already said better by the author. I will only say that I am going to be on the lookout for more from DH Smith. Great book.
Friend's by apartment house. Co-conspirators by a death. Was it murder? No matter they all touched the body,now what! Call the cops! Get rid of it! I made it happen! He's finally gone! Humor amidst death. I only give this a four because it was a little slow in places for me and I was slightly disappointed in the ending.
Jack of Spades, When Good People Bury Bad Secrets by DH Smith is a compelling murder mystery. I gave it five stars. I will look for more of this author's writing.
I read it in one sitting. I had to keep turning the pages to find out what happened to the cast of characters next. They were each well drawn & developed.

This book is awful! More than half the book is character development, then Frank dies... with the most improbable character behavior. Who are these people??? All the residents in the four family house interact with each other, yet no one is motivated to save Bessie from rape and other abuse by two men, till the very end of the book.
